To deepen students' understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and strengthen the connection between classroom learning and industrial practice, the Bachelor's Degree Program in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences recently organized a visit to three manufacturing companies within the Synmosa Group: Synmosa Biopharma Corporation, Intech Biopharm Corporation, and U-Liang Pharmaceutical Corporation. Led by Program Director Prof. Chia-Ron Yang and Assistant Professor Wei-Ren Ke, the studentsgained first-hand insight into pharmaceutical manufacturing, quality management systems, and career pathways within the biotechnology and pharmaceutical sectors.
The visit began with a presentation by representatives of the Synmosa Group, who shared an overview of the Group's development, key products, and future directions. Through presentations and discussions with industry professionals, students learned about the diverse roles and professional opportunities available in pharmaceutical companies. A graduate currently working in the industry also shared his career experience, encouraging students to remain open to new challenges, continue developing their professional knowledge, and strengthen their teamwork and communication skills.
During the facility tour, the students changed into cleanroom garments and entered themanufacturing areas in accordance with site regulations and standard operating procedures. They observed key stages of pharmaceutical production, including raw material blending, processing, filling, and packaging. The students also learned about the stringent environmental controls required in pharmaceutical manufacturing, particularly those related to temperature, humidity, and cleanliness standards. The visit also included tours of the analytical laboratory, packaging areas, and warehouse and storage facilities. These experiences allowed students to better understand quality testing, analytical techniques, packaging operations, and storage management. These experiences demonstrated the pharmaceutical industry's unwavering commitment to product quality, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
Many students noted that the visit brought concepts from courses such as analytical chemistry, microbiology, and quality management to life. By observing their application in an actual manufacturing environment, students developed a clearer understanding of how research and development, manufacturing, quality assurance (QA), and quality control (QC) work together throughout the pharmaceutical product life cycle.
The visit not only broadened students' perspectives on pharmaceutical industry but also helped them better understand potential career paths and the professional competencies required in the field. It further reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary knowledge, practical experience, teamwork, and communication in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
Through industry visits, academia-industry engagement, and experiential learning activities, the Bachelor's Degree Program in Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Sciences continues to provide students with opportunities to connect academic knowledge with real-world applications. The program will continue to strengthen its partnerships with industry and expand practice-oriented learning opportunities, preparing students to become biotechnology and pharmaceutical professionals equipped with scientific knowledge, practical skills, and innovative thinking.
